MailTab for Gmail - Email Client App Reviews

I would still prefer GMail Notifier

Well, I would say, its an enhaced form of GMAIL NOTIFIER, a small application which sits on your menu bar and which is lighter on your computer resources, quiter, more stable and having a smaller window. But again, in Gmail Notifier you have to open the browser when you need to read your email or reply/forward/send them but in this app you can do everything from its own window. I have also found a bug in Mailtab for GMAIL. Whenever I try to reply an email from its own window, my computer switches from integrated graphics to discrete graphics, which is an indication that this app requires a heavier graphics card. Even when I am not doing anything after replying an e-mail, my computer stays on discrete graphics, making itself hotter and draining my battery till I completely shut down this app from the menu bar. I am afraid I am gonna stay with GMail Notifier because I think its a much better application which doesnt demand your attention all the time.

no google app support

Tried it for a few minutes, until I realized that it doesnt support Google App accounts. Also there is no quit button, so Ill need to restart my computer to get it to shut down, I hope.

good convient app

this app is nice and fast and easy but i only gave for stars because you cant attach files while in app when sending an email

Cannot open attachments from app

Although the description mentions that you can access your mail without opening a browser, this is false when it comes to opening attachments. Clicking on an attachment brings up the default browser. Kinda annoying to have to login twice. Otherwise, this is a very useful app which simply brings googles slick mobile interface to os x. I really prefer leaving this open instead of Mail or a browser. Keep the updates coming guys! In reply to some other comments regarding previous versions, it works perfectly fine with Google Apps account since Google switch all Google Apps account to actual Google accounts (happened a while back).

Display number of messages and email link redirect needed

This app looks good but it would be even more practical in two main ways: 1) by showing a number in the icon of how many messages there are. Maybe add this as a preference? 2) By clicking on an email address link in a browser, either Mail.app opens up or Google Notifier is needed to redirect the email link to the default browser, opening Gmail. This also puts Google Notifier into the menubar along with your app. My personal preference would be to use your app only. Perhaps this is something you could manage for the next version? If so, I would love to continue using it then. Thanks.

Simple, but useful

Handy little application - basically seems to just use the mobile version of GMail in a miniature web-browser with some added shortcuts. Apparently there are new touch getsures supported in this version, but as theres no help, Im not sure how to use them. Very handy, not too CPU or memory heavy - Im not sure what the Plus (paid) version adds, mind you.

need forward and send buttons on top

Very convinient app, but the send and forward buttons need to be easily accessible withou scrolling all the way down. Also very difficult to copy the text in the message for further pasting - no right click or drop down menu to allow it.

Memory Leak

This application has a memory leak and if left to its own will eventually chew up several gigs of system memory. (Snow Leopard on Core 2 Duo Mac Mini)

I like it

I used apple mail and sparrow before mailtab and Ive permanently converted. I think its great, works fine with no problems and I like the "youve got mail" ding sound. only complaint is I havent been able to figure out how to include an attachment on a new mail, but other than that its a beaute.

Allan N

Verry good, I use it all the time to get my gmail

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:):):)

Works really well, very effective! Saves so much time not getting on line! It even goes red when a message comes in! love it! Highly recommend it!

Does what it should...so you forget about Mail

I rate apps based on the amount of times I use them and whether I can use them without thinking very much. This app fits these criteria. As a result Im using Mail less and less, and I can avoid having to switch to that app. Well done. Kudos to the developers...sweet and simple.

Works for simple stuff, buggy for other stuff

Heres the deal - this is great for putting your mail in the taskbar and giving you rich functionality for reading / responding. The chat implementation, however, is very bad on Lion - only a sound and color notification for incoming chat, and you cant sign-out of chat. Which is crazy. So if youre thinking about upgrading just for the chat functionality, maybe think twice. That said, its only $2 :)

Its still great

Still great for this version. Everything works as it should, and that gets my five stars. HOWEVER, the DID change the icon in this version, cutting corners and making in square and thinner-like. I LIKE the OLD one better. It was smooth and sexy. But thats just cosmetic. Its still great!

super handy and simple

i really like this program. i removed the mail app from my launch bar, which freed up some space, and now i just use this app. there could maybe be a few improvements to the interface, but overall id say this is a great app for simplifying basic email needs

Handy application

Ive used this app since its release and I really enjoy the way it works. Unobtrusive, yet able to tell you what you need to know when you need to know it, and letting you deal with a lot of your email without having to open your browser or go to Gmail on the net. Well thought out. Really good work!

Loved it at first… Heres why I now hate it.

MailTab worked great at first. It was exactly what I wanted in a Gmail client. But then the spam started. Id log in and see Growler-style notifications that were actually ads. Made me think I had malware installed. Turned out it was MailTab. Whats the difference between MailTab and Malware? As best as I can tell, MailTab can be uninstalled. And so I did. Dont get spammed. Dont install MailTab. Presumably their pro version doesnt suffer from this junk, but I will never pay for anything from FIPLAB after this.

very nice!

all around awesome, even the free version. the ONLY complaint I have (only one!) is it needs a volume control for the Alert sound. currently it does not obey the volume set in the System Preferences panel :( but everything else is great. super handy not to have a browser open all the time to check email

Love it!

I have had other desktop email notifiers. This one is by far my favourite. Love it.

Discreet and Useful

Fully functional and discreet. A must have for Mac users with gmail accounts.
